The origin of Tiramisù
Where does the dessert Tiramisù come from?The name says it all. Tiramisù directly translated from Italian means "pick-me-up” – and this delicious Italian dessert does just that, taking us to 7th heaven. Its name comes from its ingredients which are full of energy: eggs, sugar, coffee and mascarpone.
Many legends exist about Tiramisù
Some say that Tiramisù was first created in Siena by pastry chefs in the sixteenth century, to honour the arrival of the Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de Medici.
Another legend tells us that during the Renaissance, Tiramisù was considered a powerful aphrodisiac and so was prepared by the Venetians for their lovers at night, thinking it would give them more energy.
Extremely popular in Italy, this classic dessert never ceases to delight - from its original coffee to the numerous unexpected variations both sweet and savoury! Today Tiramisù is a symbol of authentic Italy.
